DJM Trio | Cave Art Two

DJM trio breathes fierce artistry into grooved out renditions of Solange, Patrice Rushen, Slum Village, Madvillain, Ohbliv and more. It’s upon this precipice that Dominic James Marshall makes his mark, at the helm and on the keys of Cave Art Two – a slate of scintillating digital sounds, spontaneously arranged, etched in wax. The project is a thoughtful and inventive response to a long tradition of musical sampling.

The DJM Trio is led by Dominic James Marshall, an Amsterdam native who is a current member of renowned British nu-jazz and electronic outfit The Cinematic Orchestra. A rising jazz piano star, Marshall was nominated for the Edison International Jazz Award, and the trio earned a coveted set at BBC’s Manchester Jazz Festival, as unanimously selected by a jury including Gilles Peterson, Jamie Cullum and Jez Nelson.

MF DOOM, Aloe Blacc, Hodgy Beats, Anderson Paak, Mayer Hawthorne and Dam-Funk join MED and Blu over 100% Madlib beats.

A couple years ago Blu got a few Madlib instrumentals and put together a few demos. The rough collection became the foundation of what would become “Bad Neighbor“. MED, a longtime collaborator of Madlib, put the pieces together, bringing together an impressive group of MCs and vocalists to complete the album.

nehruvianDOOM

nehruviandoom

MF DOOM and Bishop Nehru’s collaborative album under the name NehruvianDOOM is due out September 22nd via Lex Records. After releasing the video for “Darkness” a couple of weeks ago, they’ve now dropped the new track, “Om”, features rapping from DOOM.

NehruvianDOOM grew out of a meeting at London’s famous jazz venue, dive bar, the 100 Club in April 2013 where DOOM and a then 16 year old Bishop Nehru were booked to play. DOOM was immediately impressed by Bishop Nehru, an mc prodigy who has been co-signed by Kendrick Lamar and described by Nas as “the future of music”. After the show, DOOM and Bishop stayed in touch on e-mail, DOOM sending new beats and Bishop sending back his vocals. A year later and a couple of studio sessions behind them, the work has taken shape. The Metal Fingers production, and Bishop Nehru’s classic flow makes it sound like they found missing Ampex reels from ’94. The album is the first full length studio album produced by DOOM since ‘Take Me to Your Leader’ in 2003.

Pre-order digitally on iTunes, or vinyl direct via Lex Records.
