Chilly Gonzales, Canadian pianist and entertainer, returns with his much anticipated follow-up to Solo Piano II (live in Munich 2012). Listen below to ‘Cello Gonzales’, one of Chilly Gonzales’s new songs, from the Huw Stephens Piano Session on his BBC Radio 1 show last Thursday.
Carlos Cipa is a composer and multi-instrumentalist based in Munich. He has been classically trained on the piano and currently studies contemporary classical composition at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Munich. During his teenage years he started playing drums and gained experience as a member of various bands. Experimenting with different styles of music, he turned back to piano as his main instrument, which facilitates to find his way towards composition and improvisation, before releasing his debut “The Monarch and the Viceroy” on Denovali Records in 2012. Over the last three years Carlos Cipa played over 60 concerts all over Europe and shared the stage with like-minded musicians like Hauschak, Ólafur Arnalds and Valgeir Sigurdsson.

Quartetto Fantastico is a LA based string quartet consisting of Chris Woods (Violin), Paul Cartwright (Violin), Miguel Atwood-Ferguson (Viola) and Peter Jacobson (Cello). The quartett is comprised of four musicians that think and play outside the box, covering a wide range of repertoire in various styles, from Classical to Jazz to Hip-Hop to Modern, including original compositions from the players. A large inspiration for the group is improvisation, whether in the context of a piece or as the basis for an entire section of the performance. Quartetto loves music and loves to share their amazing musical journey with audiences, leading to exciting, unpredictable, one-of-a-kind performances that present music in a fresh, dynamic, hip, exuberant way, affirming life and the power of music!
Poppy Ackroyd is a composer from the United Kingdom, she studied piano and composition at Edinburgh University before completing a masters degree in Piano Performance. A long-term collaborator with Hidden Orchestra, she also works with other musicians and artists, creating soundtracks for film, dance, physical theatre and radio. Her debut album in 2012 ‘Escapement‘ (Denovali Records) impressed with its delicate, intricate and beautifully atmospheric music, created using only piano and violin. After her live performances in 2013 with Lumen, she now released her second full-length album ‘Feathers’. She will be performing live across Europe in the months, check out her tour-dates.

San Francisco-based quartet Tin Hat released their sixth studio album, “the rain is a handsome animal” on New Amsterdam Records. The 17-track song cycle is based on the visionary modernist poetry of American poet E.E. Cummings and, for the first time in the band’s history, centers largely around the remarkable singing of Tin Hat violinist Carla Kihlstedt. Each of the group’s members channeled their relationship with Cummings’ work to contribute their own unique pieces for the project, showcasing themselves as both imaginative composers as well as riveting performers.
